Which size has your tunnel?
The tunnel is 4,3 meters wide and 17 meters high. Experienced sport flyers can fly up to 12 meters above the ground level.
What is a vertical wind tunnel?
A recreational vertical wind tunnel moves air up in a vertical column, making it possible to simulate freefall. The flying is similar to jumping out of an airplane at 4,000 meters. Vertical wind tunnels are used for professional skydiver to optimize their training as well as for people who want to experience the feeling of freefall in a safe environment for fun or as a regular sport.
Can I wear my glasses during the indoor flight?
Yes you can. You will be provided with goggles under which you can wear your own glasses.
Can I have a normal meal before the indoor flight?
We would recommend you to have a lighter meal before you fly.
Am I too heavy?
We would recommend you to have a lighter meal before you fly.
How is it possible to fly without a parachute?
WINDOBONA utilizes a recirculating wind tunnel in which four fans provide a laminar airflow. The airspeed provided is the same compared to freefall speed encountered when skydiving out of 4,000 meters. This airflow keeps participants in the air and makes flying your own body possible.
Just how high can I fly in your wind tunnel?
The WINDOBONA flight chamber is 15 meters high and 4,3 meters wide. First time flyers are flying in the bottom part of the wind tunnel maximum at 4 meters. Flying higher than 4 meters needs a certain skill level that everybody can learn after a certain flying time.
How can I influence the height of my flying?
Our instructor will accompany you into the flight chamber to show you the basic body flying maneuvers. The influence on height is a movement that includes the whole body. It is easy and with a little practice, you will find it very easy to control the level of your flight.
How can you regulate the airflow? Is it the same intensity for everyone?
No, the airflow is adapted for each individual participant. The flight chamber controller regulates the airspeed, varying it to reflect the individual flyer´s size, weight and body flying experience.
What is the maximum air or free fall speed in the wind tunnel?
On average, you will experience a freefall speed of 50 meters per second. Pro flyers using the facility for skydiving training are likely to work at a speed up to 70 meters per second. WINDOBONA´s tunnel integrated fans are capable of moving 1,5 tons of air per second.
How do I get into the airflow to start my flight?
Flyers enter the airflow through a door at the base of the flight chamber. The flyer stands next to the airflow and then simply leans into it. Our flight instructor will assist you during that process. You will feel how your legs are lifted and you will soon be flying in the air in a so-called belly position. After you become accustomed to being in the air, you willl be able to fly in all three dimensions.
Is the wind tunnel flyer in the flight chamber by him/herself?
No, an experienced instructor is in the flight chamber during all flights, he can always help the flyer stop the flight, if necessary. Moreover, instructors assist flyers in finding the right body position and learning the correct movements of their arms and legs.
Do you need any previous knowledge or qualifications?
No, you don´t need any special former training to enjoy body flying in a wind tunnel. Our wind tunnel allows everybody to experience freefall similar to that in outdoor skydiving. Indoor skydiving is suitable for both adults children and adults (as of the age of 4 with a parental approval) as long as they are of reasonably good in health and physical fitness. Each participant gets a detailed instructions and ground preparation from our qualified instructors before they experience the sensation of flight.
Do I need a special equipment to fly in the wind tunnel?
No. We provide every participant with the equipment that is needed for indoor skydiving. The flight suits we provide are made of a strong durable fabric and are available in different sizes. Will also lend you a helmet, protectors, earplugs and goggles. All we request from you are clean shoes that can be tied up.
Is it possible to fly in the tunnel with more than one person in the flight chamber at the same time?
Experienced skydivers use wind tunnels to practice complex formations involving up to 8 persons at once. Inexprience flyers fly in the flight chamber with only their instructor accompanying them. However, as a flyer becomes more accustomed to being in the air and more capable of performing controlled movements, it becomes possible for him/her to fly together with other participants.
Is it possible to interrupt the flying session?
Yes - at any time, if necessary or requested. A specific signal that flyers are taught during the ground preparation session, lets the instructor know that he should take the flyer out of the airflow. In addition, the controller sitting outside the flight chamber can immediately lower the airflow itself at any time.
How long can I fly in the wind tunnel?
Just like an outdoor skydiving a flight in a vertical wind tunnel requires some physical effort. With your entire body engaged during the flight your muscles are going to get tired. While 2 minutes of flight time (our minimum flight allotment) will already provide you with an unforgettable experience, we recommend six minutes, as that corresponds to the total freefall time you would experience in a free fall skydiving course. Every basic movement involved in freefall can be learned during this period of time. For untrained persons, it generally does not make sense to extend the total flight time more than 20 minutes on a single day. Pro-flyers often spend more than one hour per day in a vertical wind tunnel. For professional skydivers that one hour of training is equivalent to the freefall time of 60 training jumps from 4,000 meters.
What is the maximum weight?
Our maximum weight for a person is 120 kg.
Can I fly when my shoulder was dislocated before?
We recommend not to fly when your shoulder was dislocated before. The chance of a second dislocation is higher.
